Day Twelve - Oturehua to cromwell

I am late again, another long day arriving late into Cromwell just before New World closed (8pm) and just enough time to get into Thai restaurant for some food.
This was supposed to be an easy day, but once again we probably should have left earlier. We set out after 10am and made great progress on the rail trail, which was amazing. Over bridges and through tunnels arriving Omakau for a 2nd breakfast. Bacon and hash butty..lovely
Then onward to Alexandra for some lunch. Had never been there before, it was beautiful (on a sunny day) not sure what it would be like in winter. The temperature continues to rise.
We headed to the river trail, which was through trees and a fantastic relief from the sun. Following the clutha river until we reached the Clyde dam and Lake Dunstan.
Stopped for a swim in the lake and a rest before tackling the dunstan trail.
One again the trail by the side of the lake was breath taking, up and down and meandering around the edges.of the lake. I love what they've done to build out the boardwalks hanging off the cliffs.
we new.we had to reach the bridge to cross to get into Cronwell. Finally sited it and then rounded a corner to see a whole inlet of the river we still had to get round, so demoralizing after another long day on the bike.
Final bush into Cromwell to find some food and our house for night. It was a lovely brand new house, big garage to sort out bikes and big coffee beds for a good night sleep before an early start as we pushed on foe outer next.massive day following the Nevis Road to Duffers Saddle.
